I did two things. First I laughed at it, then I said it’s nonsense. It’s a no-story… it discredits what I’m trying to do here. I can control what I do with these guys on this team. I can’t control what’s said out there. I won’t allow them to use my name to make a non-story. The Golden State thing is nonsense.

The Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, Embarks on her annual Marian Pilgrimage To Iwopin
The church in Ijebu-Ode diocese, proceeds on her annual Pilgrimage to the Marian Shrine in St. Kizito’s Catholic Church, Iwopin, Ogun Waterside, Ogun State. This is not only for the sanctity of the Catholic Faithful in the diocese, but equally for the sanctification of the Diocese in itself.
Meanwhile there are usually thousands of people who are usually in attendance, with the purpose of sanctification and purification with various intentions which are presented to our Mother Mary, after which such intentions are burnt with the prayers of insensation been said. Nevertheless various activities such as: Procession from the river side, the Opening mass, stations of the cross, exposition and veneration of the Blessed Sacrament, confessions, prayer sections etc.
The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship. The Church rightly honors the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of Mother of God, to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. This very special devotion differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration. The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an “epitome of the whole Gospel”, express this devotion to the Virgin Mary. Marian prayer and piety developed very early in the history of the undivided Christian Church of the first millennium and has been kept alive in a myriad of practices in the both the Catholic and the Orthodox Churches. Perhaps the most popular expression of Marian piety in the Latin Church is the praying of the rosary.
Mary is the perfect Orans, a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends his Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus' mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope. Throughout the world however there are special places of pilgrimage associated with Marian prayer and piety. Places where the Mother of the Lord has appeared to the faithful, proclaiming the Gospel message to repent from sin and turn to her Son and Savior, Jesus Christ. Associated with each of these places, popular piety has kept alive the vibrant religious sense of the faithful who call upon the Mother of God for her prayerful assistance and maternal protection.
Pilgrimages evoke our earthly journey toward heaven and are traditionally very special occasions for renewal in prayer. For pilgrims seeking living water, shrines are special places for living the forms of Christian prayer "in Church". Traditionally, the call to pilgrimage came during either a spiritual crisis or an opportunity to fulfill a spiritual obligation. The long walk down what used to be called “the glory road” was meant to give a pilgrim ample time to contemplate deep issues that couldn’t be answered at home. Today, the call may even be more intense because life has become so frenetic that most of us claim not to have enough to think about spiritual issues on the traditional level, but also other deep concerns, such as failing marriages, job crises, or the general malaise. The cry for pilgrimage is an antidote to our over-amped lives.
Therefore the Church in Ijebu-Ode Diocese took up this spiritual exercise by journeying on a Pilgrimage to seek the intercession, face and, favor of our Mother Mary because Pilgrimage' is a wide-ranging topic touching on many aspects of human existence, signifying not only a physical journey to a special place, but also an inner spiritual journey and indeed life itself.

GBORU ANDREW: courage and timidity.... The two sides of a coin
In our world today, there is this assumption that a person ordinarily need to be afraid of what is to come. The assumption “no one knows tomorrow” seemingly becomes true because our being is determined by what the world has to offer. Generally then, there is fear of uncertainty of what is to come even in the next minute.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me as a prisoner but share with the sufferings of the gospel, according to the power of God.” 2 Timothy 1:7.
Courage in itself is the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, uncertainty or intimidation. Physical courage is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, death or the fear of death or even threat. While moral courage is the ability to act rightly in face of popular opposition, shame, scandals, or discouragement.
On the other hand, timidity is fear, fearfulness, fright. An emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). Also timidity entails the lack of self assurance courage or bravery which easily alarmed timorous shy. But the bitter truth is that man fails in this regard in the aspect of judgment between courage and timidity. Hence, there should be in our lives the predominance of courage over and above timidity. As St Paul admonishes us in his second letter to Timothy 1:7that God has given us the spirit of sound mind and not that of fear.
As seminarians therefore we should not be afraid of the future because we have a firm assurance of what the future holds by God’s power. We should be willing to confront fear as by this we are testifying to the Gospel as St. Paul says. Let us take note that nobody grows merely by the number of years; but rather we grow old by deserting our ideas. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust kills the heart and turns the spirit back into dust. Do not be afraid be courageous for God gives us a spirit not of fear but of power and self-control.
Theodore Roosevelt once asserts that; it is hard to fail but it is worse never to have tried to succeed. For the man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.
Oscar Wilde says; Nowadays most people die of a sort of creeping common sense, and discover when it is too late that the only things one never regrets is ones mistake.
Ellen Hopkins summarizes it by saying: Taking no chances means wasting one’s dream.
In all the big question remains: What would life be to you and me if we had no courage to attempt anything?

FUEL: Elusiyan Francis Tolulope shows concern for the present petroleum cacophony
THE PATRIMONY OF FUEL AND THE PARADOXES OF THE MARKETERS
Nigeria as a nation is full of paradoxes. Obviously, refusal to sell fuel to induce high prices are annual rituals of the marketers. It is the greatest national scandal have ever seen. How on earth would some marketers refuse to sell out fuel because of excessive profit making thereby making life difficult for others. It is indeed a greedy attitude. We have on our hands what I call a "Country capture" by few petroleum marketers and their official collaborations. My dear Nigerians, let us all stand up and liberate ourselves from these profit mungers.

Precious Nwachukwu explains the role of youths in nation building
The term nation building or national development, is usually used to refer to a constructive process of engaging all citizens in building social cohesion, economic prosperity and political stability in a nation in an inclusive and democratic way. Going by the definition, it is seen that all citizens are to be involved in building or developing a nation. Thus, the involvement of youth in national development is a must. In fact, youths play one of the most important roles in nation building.
The Youths are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but also the partners of today. Young people are social actors of change and progress. They are a crucial segment of a nation's development. Their contribution, therefore, is highly needed.Youth are the engine room of every nation. The similitude of the importance of youth to nation building could be likened to a car engine, without which, vehicles cant move, so also without youth, a nation cannot thrive. The role of the youth in nation building is too relevant to be jettisoned they serve as the back-bone of a society. They can make or mar a nation based on what is programmed in them. They are a feedback system because if they are well equipped and garnished with the best available resources, they give a positive outcome, but, if otherwise, negative outcome should be expected.
Nigerian youths are surely among the most talented and creative youths in the world. They are fast learners; they have the ability to work under pressure and bring out desired result(s) for any organisation or institution. The role of Nigerian youths cannot be underestimated in nation building. Nigerian youths from time immemorial have been contributing their quota towards national development. It is only an insane man that will say Nigerian youths are not productive because there is practically no aspect of nature, physical or anthropological, material or human, complex diversity or undefined homogeneity, regional, international, academic or sport, Nigeria cannot boast of, even in religion or ethnicity. Name any field of learning you would not see a Nigerian youth renowned locally or internationally. Mention any aspect of living, good or bad, a Nigerian youth will not be actively and not passively recognised. There is nowhere in the world one would not see a Nigerian youth with the buzzing I-can-do spirit; In fact they drive the wheel of several countries in the world. However, the irony of the Nigerian situation is that the leadership cadre is filled with aged politicians who think nation building is their exclusive preserve and as such youths should not be given a chance. Perhaps, their stand explains why though youths are said to be leaders of tomorrow, that future never comes. On the other hand, the youths also are the architect of their misfortune because we have internalised the wrong precedence of corrupt politicians. We are ideologically bankrupt and in a state of delirium. We chose violence instead of peace and mutual coexistence. We chose the comfort of the moment instead of striving for self-sacrifice that will guarantee the freedom of this country. We chose the highway for robbery instead of class rooms. We chose guns, knives and axes instead of pen, paper and hard work. We avail ourselves all kinds of dirty jobs during election. We are carried away in the euphoria of crazy fashion and have jettisoned culture and history. We lack character and morality. The qualities of tomorrows leaders lie in the characters of todays followers

Gboru Andrew shares his experience and sentiments on how the social media has its effect on our youths
Effect of social networking on our youths
One afternoon during a long journey, I stumbled on one Lindiwe Anderson who I learnt is suffering from Asperger’s syndrome ( a mild coupe of Autism – a mental condition in which a person finds it very difficult to communicate or form relationships with other), I marveled looking down I saw Lindi’s phone, I was shocked as she was surfing the internet chatting and smiling. I wondered, what could she be doing? How come the smiles? Although, she never uttered a word throughout the journey but made sounds customary to her illness. Social Networking…
Indeed, the whole issue of Information Communication Technology (I.C.T), is somehow complicated. Just like a war which everybody tells the story from his own point of view. I.C.T to many has a subjective cognition even to Lindi. The concept I.C.T can be used interchangeably with the word media or social network. In our world today one has to be knowledgeable in reading, evaluating, creating text and images or any combination of these elements to be considered media literate.
Media in every age is the greatest singular factor which prevails the culture of that age, this is not excluding our time. The role played by I.C.T is made manifest as human activities aimed at conveying meaning, relation with one another also sharing or exchanging ideas, is made easy and with ultimate possibility.
The Social Network as a division of the whole business of communication is also just like war easier analyzed, having multi-dimensional views.
Technology, such as social media websites have become prominent part of life for many young people today, but what is it really, its negative or positive effects in the society and family now more concerned with these social networks than our daily lives? Examples of Social Networking sites explored by the youths includes.
facebook,twitter,2go,badoo,bbm,watsap,blackbook,yahoomail,google,quip, etc.
There are many positive aspects and there are equally many dangers that come with these social networks among the youths.
We have to critically dig into this in order to be aware of all the sides of social networks before we or our children (family) indulged in it.
Social networking can act as great tool for professionals, both helping to market skills of small business owners, upcoming youths and also find opportunities for youths.
There is promotion everywhere of the vast spread of introvertism through Social Networking Chats as many youths find it difficult to begin physical interaction with same sexes and opposite sexes.
Another scary fact about youths and the internet is that they are too open with personal information; most youths do not read website privacy, most youths are not concerned about people they talk with online things appear to be less worried about or cared for when they are been posted online.
Without reading disclaimers and policies it opens the youths to having their personal information divulged. This is serious, due to the rising rates of cyber crimes like identify thefts and impersonation, fraudulent act.
Once you are a victim of identity theft or even a virus of computer, there isn’t much you can do to make it better, thus, the best way is to avoid this misery and apply caution when interacting in these social media.
Social networking may be harmful to the well being of your gadgets as hackers can get access to your information very easily by using tactics such as social engineering.
Social engineering plays human nature to get results.
New studies by Nick McGillivray, has shown that facebook can actually influence you to spend more money through advertisement on the cover of your screen. One other vice is cyber bullying, why by individuals use the social sites to harass and use insulting words to threaten or intimidate, which mostly occur in media sites.
Indeed, new research by Reader’s Digest shows that heavy social use might be correlated to lower self-control, which marketing experts believe could lead to inflation.
Ultimately, the way you counter this, is by raising your self-awareness, Columbia University, Professor Keith Wilcox.
In many cases, it is clear that social networking has become not only part of people’s lives, but also revolve round it. We see people on smart phones every minutes looking for the newest tweet or status updates from friends. We find out that internet officials bring validity to things in our lives, thereby acclaiming the canon of our moral lives. We have to understand that this is a great tool and not a lifestyle for youths.
In the meantime, Social Network is not usually for entertainment only, but information as well, as an antidote to time wasting, youths should be trained in reading, study, silence and meditation. No matter your situation there is a great role played by social networking in our day to day life.

UCH launches ambulances for elderly on wheelchair
To further boost care of the elderly in Nigeria, the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan commissioned two ambulatory ambulances for the use of its Chief Tony Anenih Geriatric Centre (CTAGC) to ensure home transport for its teeming clients.
UCH’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Temitope Alonge said the ambulatory ambulances with hydraulic lifts will ensure that even elderly people that are in wheelchairs can be brought to the centre for medical care.
The N20 million ambulatory ambulances donated by Chief Tony Anenih, Professor Alonge said will have paramedics on board as well as first aid kits and other gadgets for cardiac resuscitation to ensure the safety of its occupants every time.
According to him, a Geographical Information Scheme (GIS) mapping of the attendees of the centre has been done to earmark areas the ambulances will be going to pick and take back patients.
He stated that since the centre’s telephone system sends out short message system (SMS) to remind its clients their clinic appointment, it will also help to know those expected to be picked by the ambulance.
Professor Alonge said aside from the benefit of 50 per cent reduction in the cost of their care, elderly persons that receive care at the Chief Tony Anenih Geriatric Centre also enjoy N18, 000 insurance services that enable them to have a medical care of up to about N500, 000.
He added that the centre was also embarking on community geriatric services to provide home care, especially for elderly patients with psycho-social challenges.
Professor Alonge, who said that the population of elderly in Nigeria had increased due to improved healthcare, however, decried Nigeria’s nonchalant attitude to their care.
He said the country only pay lip service to their care despite its many policies on the care of the vulnerable groups, including children under age of five.
“These are men and women in the prime of their lives have added value to the country. One way by which you can actually attend to the needs of these people is to make sure that there is a system that works for them so that when we too become old enough we have that system serving us,” he declared.
Earlier, CTAGC’s Director, Dr Lawrence Adebusuyi stated that the two ambulances will ensure the provision of domiciliary care, one of the visions of the geriatric centre, can be achieved.
Dr Adebusuyi, acknowledging the benevolence of Chief Anenih, stated that often times, older patients find it difficult coming to the hospital due to transportation.
He added that ambulances will be complementing the hospital’s tricycles that pick them from the gate to the centre for care.

Mr Francis Tolulope Elusiyan expresses his sentiments over the educational system in the country
NIGERIA EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM AT THE CROSS ROAD: A CRY FOR RETURN TO MISSIONARY.
As mortals, our earthly pilgrimage that commences from the womb inevitably ends in the tomb. However, in the course of this pilgrimage, man often formulates ideas and values on a permanent basis. And because he will die one day and would not like to be forgotten, a need then arises to initiate a medium through which these values will be passed to the next generation. Essentially, this is to ensure that there is order in the society. This transmission of values from one generation to another is what we commonly refer to as education.
It is an established fact that education has a significant role to play in national development. In fact, it is the starting point of development because it is the vehicle with which knowledge and values are conveyed to their destination, that is, the individuals who are to acquire such knowledge and values.
A close look at Nigerian society reveals ineffectiveness, inefficiency and insincerity in the various aspects of human involvements-leadership, politics, construction and maintenances of infrastructure and so on. Nigeria is blessed with variety of educational institutions which are supposed to be domes for teaching and learning, enlightening and enriching of experiences for social efficiency and ultimately where persons come in contact with knowledge. The end result of such confrontation with knowledge is literacy. Literacy is not just about reading well and writing well. It is all about intellectual order, which includes creative knowledge, development of personality, information, social efficiency, mental and moral discipline and social responsibility.
The problem of value is fundamental to the causes of inability to realizing the ideals of education in Nigeria. This problem of value includes the deficiency in recognition of the dignity of human person and respect of the human dignity, dignity in labour and social responsibility. Thus, the leaders, the university authorities, teachers and students suffer from these crises of value.
From the domain of the university authorities- academic and non-academic, the cherished principles and ideals of university are lost, resulting to admission scandals, bribery and graft, victimization, sexual harassment of female students, extortion and so on. Thus, there is misplacement of priority. From the part of the students, the crises of value have led to various illicit, immoral and anti-social behaviours. Accordingly, there are gross examination malpractices, cult activities, armed robbery, theft, and lack of seriousness, prostitutions and other anti-social behaviours. There should be corroborative efforts of the government, the leaders, parents and students to change this condition. We need quality higher institutions that turn out viable graduates with creative knowledge and perspicacity as expressions of intellectual order; and this is also applicable to our secondary schools as well.

Putting the Sceptics in their Place
To those who say that all those who participated in the Pro-Buhari movement in 2015 (including Soyinka, Obasanjo, and countless well-meaning Nigerians) must be downgraded because they were wrong, and being wrong once means they should not be trusted again; you can now have your reply.
No authority relying on human ability and resources can know in advance the complex march of politics or history nor discern the opaque zone of human intentions. Being infallible should never be a requirement for an epistemic authority.
Further, one can imagine a religious fanatic, who believes that Buhari would turn out to be a failure. He forms this belief not on the basis of good evidence but on the basis of religious bias and raw rage against the North. Even if he turns out to be correct; we still ought to find him blameworthy. His results and procedure are not deserving of praise. Religious rage, bias, guess work, fussy reasoning, ethnic sympathy and the likes do not just lead us astray, they reflect negatively on us as rational inquirers.

The presidential powers and Obasanjo
More than a week after President Olusegun Obasanjo released his state of the nation commentary and devastating assessment of the Buhari administration, it has remained the main subject in the public arena in Nigeria.
It is a measure of the stature, influence and capacity of the elder statesman that whenever he intervenes as he has done, he sets the tone for public debate and the country’s future political direction. I have already commented at length on the appropriateness, timeliness, depth, brutal honesty and shortcoming of that statement on both television and radio, more than twice, but there is an additional aspect that the statement further throws up, namely the nature and extent of presidential powers to wit: should Obasanjo blame Buhari?
It is common practice in Nigeria for political commentators, either on the streets or in formal situations to make excuses for Presidents, either serving or retired. You are likely to hear statements such as: “The President is a good man, it is just that he is surrounded by bad advisers and ministers”, or something like “Buhari is not the problem, the problem is that he has been hijacked by a cabal, or as the view was once expressed – “a cabal is now in charge!” The powers, style and limitations of the President are hardly ever placed in proper context. Proponents of the positivism of Presidential powers always speak in terms of “Good President, bad aides” in the Nigerian Presidential system, contrary to the norm that the buck stops at the President’s table.
President Obasanjo’s various assessments of sitting administrations adopt a different orientation. He holds the President personally responsible for the performance or non-performance of his government. In his recent statement on the Buhari administration, he thus characteristically accused President Buhari of nepotism, lack of understanding of the internal dynamics of Nigerian politics, blame-passing, condoning of misconduct and outright incompetence. He more or less ascribes to the President of Nigeria the powers and the responsibility to provide leadership and ensure good governance. In his view, in areas where the President lacks capacity, it is his duty to recruit competent persons to assist him and where and when he fails, he is still the one to be held responsible.
The underlying principle in Obasanjo’s statement is that those to whom power is bequeathed must be accountable for the exercise of such power. In his only reference to advisers in his intervention, Obasanjo uses the word “so-called advisers.” It is most unfortunate that in the various responses from government and its agents to the Obasanjo statement, there has been no attempt to take on Obasanjo on the issues. He has been called names by hired voices, or system sycophants, and all he got from the Minister of Information was an acknowledgement note and a patronizing “Baba-is-a-patriot”, tepid climb-down, without a word of defence on the substantial question about how the incumbent President has abdicated responsibility and failed the leadership test.
For me, there are a number of projected questions: Can a President actually be held responsible for the failings of the government he heads? Should the blame for an administration’s failures be heaped on the head of a past government and its officials? Who can be held liable in the circumstance – a cabal, former Ministers, or those exercising delegated authority? For whereas Obasanjo holds every President accountable, I have heard persons claim that he has no moral right to do so. It is even alleged that President Buhari cannot be questioned because he is answerable only to the people whose sovereignty he personifies.
President Obasanjo, by heaping the blame and the responsibility, on the head of President Muhammadu Buhari is drawing attention to the full extent of the ascribed and inherent powers of the President under the Constitution. The Nigerian Constitution in letter and spirit makes the Nigerian President an Emperor with near-absolute powers. There may be checks and balances on his powers here and there, in terms of his having recourse to the National Assembly on certain issues and having to make consultations, but in totality, the Constitution confers on him a kingly prerogative, especially on matters of policy and its execution. His powers are extensive and expansive. Under Section 5(1) of the Constitution, he is empowered to either exercise his powers directly or to delegate. His relationship with those to whom he delegates authority is akin to that between an agent and a disclosed principal.
Section 5(1) is instructive: “Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the executive powers of the Federation – (a) shall be vested in the President and may, subject as aforesaid and to the provisions of any law made by the National assembly, be exercised by him either directly or through the Vice-President or Ministers of the Government of the Federation or other officers in the public service of the Federation; and
Section 148(1) adds:
“The President may, in his discretion, assign to Vice-President or any Minister of the government of the Federation responsibility for any business of the Government of the Federation, including the administration of any department of government.”
It stands to reason therefore that whatever is done by those agents, lawfully and within the bounds of Presidential approval, are within the scope of the responsibility of the President. In other words, the President cannot pass the buck. So, is it right to say Buhari is a good man, but the problem is the cabal? Or to hold heads of MDAs liable for acts that were carried out with Presidential authority and approval? The President is the custodian of the social contract with the people as defined in Section 14, and where there is a failure of consideration in this regard, the government is deemed not only to have lost legitimacy, the President is deemed to have failed. This is a key point in Obasanjo’s statement, which makes it notably different from similar interventions by him in the past.
The term or the group known as “cabal” is unknown to the Nigerian Constitution but the Constitution knows the President. Section 148 also recognizes that Ministers are appointees of the President, exercising delegated authority. This is why the National Assembly cannot impeach Ministers; they can only be sanctioned or relieved of their duties by their appointor, namely the President. Where the conduct of any government official is in question, it is important to establish whether or not such a person acted beyond the scope of the approval or directive given or whether or not such was ratified by the President. However, no public official is allowed under the law to carry out an unlawful directive, where such happens, such a person is personally liable. In practical terms, this has been a source of problem. Nigerian Presidents function like Emperors. How many appointees can stand in front of a President and query his authority, or turn down his directive?
I align with the definition of responsibility in Obasanjo’s review of the exercise of presidential authority. For instance, there are cases in court against Ministers and advisers who served under the Jonathan administration over matters such as the spending of security votes and sale of oil blocks, but to what extent can they be held responsible for obeying presidential directives? Today, in President Buhari’s Aso Villa, the Chief of Staff in particular has been accused within the public domain of many things. Does anyone really believe that a Chief of Staff can act on his own without Presidential backing and not lose his job?
When the matter of MTN’s underpayment of sanctions sum came up and the penalty sum was allegedly reviewed downwards after some consideration, the MTN Executive that was involved was sanctioned, and Nigerians asked that certain government officials should similarly be sanctioned, but to date, nothing has happened. Could that have been the case without the President’s knowledge? In the more recent controversial case of Abdulrasheed Maina, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami who was accused of protecting a man who had been sacked from service on the grounds of embezzlement, pilfering and corruption, had said that he acted with the knowledge and approval of the President.

Wizkid seen hanging out wiTh BankyW, and some others
From all indications, there is no bad blood between Wizkid and his former bosses Banky W and Tunde Demuren. Wizzy was formerly signed to EME records owned by the duo. When the Starboy CEO failed to attend Banky W’s wedding that took place in 2017, many saw this to mean that perhaps all was not well with them. Even though Wizkid explained that issues with his passport made him miss the event, many remained skeptical. The fact that both Banky and Wizkid hadn’t been seen together months after the wedding was over added fire to the flames. But recent photos sees not just Banky, but Tunde Demuren and show promoter Paul Okoye hanging out together.
